Disposable Gloves for Painting

Print Friendly and PDF

Learn the difference between latex and nitrile gloves.

By Jim Hingst @hingst_jim

If you or your employees come in contact with chemicals when prepping a substrate, painting or cleaning up at the end of  a job, they need to protect their hands by wearing either latex or nitrile gloves. Harmful solvents in oil-based paints not only can irritate you skin but can be absorbed and enter your blood stream.

Safety training sessions should include the importance of wearing disposable rubber gloves when working with paints, solvents and chemicals as well as your shop’s policy regarding all personal protection equipment.

Both latex and nitrile gloves provide the wearer the dexterity needed when painting.  Latex gloves are believed to be slightly more flexible, but frankly there is not much difference.  The problem with latex is that some people are allergic to natural rubber.  Nitrile gloves are also very flexible but are latex-free.

For painting I recommend the Venom Steel Premium Disposable Nitrile Gloves. I have used these gloves for years. They are a little thicker and much tougher than other brands so they are less likely to rip. In fact, I usually get several uses from each pair. Compared to latex gloves, the 6-mil Venom brand better withstands solvents, paints and cleaning chemicals and is less likely to disintegrate.

The most economical way to buy these gloves is in bulk. A box of 100 costs between $15 and $20.

  7. Very nice blog. The key reason why nitrile gloves have attained quite more fame than their counterpart latex gloves is due to allergic reactions and that’s why so many people prefer to Shop Bulk Nitrile Gloves.
